Potty-Training

This is the last week of Bryn's cute, little playgroup, and then the real fun begins:
It's time to POTTY TRAIN her! Yikes!
PLEASE let me know if you have any suggestions because I haven't figured out my game plan yet. I'm just planning for a crazy week...or two....or however long it takes.

My advice is pay for your mom to come out and do it for you... Totally worth the money! :) I hated potty training cause I had two an i feet like I had a time bomb outside the bathroom whil one sat on the toilet for 20 minutes.

Um, butreally my least favorite thing about parenting... Potty training

LET HER BE NAKED FOR 3 DAYS! Kids are super more aware of their body's "signs" when they are naked. Slowly start adding back clothes-- undies first, undies and shirt, then full clothes.
Whatever "technique" you use, good luck!!!!!!

Just finished potty training Avery a few weeks ago, and my advice is to definitely wait until she is ready! I had tried (not too hard) a couple times before and she resisted so I backed off. This time it just clicked and she was completely done in a week. The first day we camped out in the bathroom for about an hour, I pulled a chair into the bathroom (for me), sat her on the toilet and gave her a big cup of juice. And waited. We read books and talked, and then eventually a little tinkle came out and I made a huge deal about it. She got to put a sticker on her chart (we had gone to the store and she chose what her prize would be when it was filled up) and she got a couple jellybeans. #2 was a little harder, she held that in for a couple days and just kept saying she wanted a diaper on. After some stressing and Googling, I decided that it was better for her to get it out than forcing the toilet and making it a bad/scary experience. So I put a diaper on the 2nd night for bed, thinking she would go in her sleep. But she surprised me and didn't, but then went in the toilet the next day. Made a HUGE deal, called CJ at work, my parents, Kristen, to let her announce her exciting news. Then she got ice cream which I had promised her. Also the first few days she spent the majority of the day with just a shirt on (sat on a towel when sitting) because it seemed if she had anything on down there she felt like it was ok to go. But this way she was aware there was nowhere for it to go. Sorry for the novel... I'm not an expert by any means, I felt totally clueless and wanted as much advice as I could get, so hopefully some of this will help! GOOD LUCK!

I base potty training at my house on the book "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" by Nathan H. Azrin & Richared M. Foxx. Several of my friends who went through it before me recommended the book to me, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Plus...it's kinda old-school, so you're bound to laugh at some of the wording. :D

It worked GREAT for both my boys! I love it mostly because it focuses on them learning to do all the steps by themselves - even taking care of their wet clothes if they have an accident. Also, that they get the whole concept down really fast. It's a whole day focused only on potty training, but it's so worth it.

Call me and I can explain the jist of it. :) 503-545-2006.

you have tons of other people to get help from, but I'm a timer setter...every 15 minutes, and once we get that down(like a whole day of 15ers), every 20, and then 25...It's been good for me!

Call your Mom. She gave me great advice that I used for all of my kids, and it worked in a few days!! I hope you call for everything. Seriously, your Mom is always my go-to on any parenting question.

Oh Laura, good luck. My potty training experiences having been so great. I'd rather go through TWO labors per child instead of potty training. As long as she's ready, hopefully all will go well. Maybe look at the book "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day." It has some really great advice in there. It talks about having your child potty train a doll first.
Anyway, good luck! Keep us updated!
